The Lavender Blue Farmer’s Country Market has long been a popular eating spot an Saturday mornings. Well the service and quality is exactly the same during the week, you just don’t get all those stalls that are there on Saturdays.
What you do get is Lavender Blue Coffee Shop, now licensed, and it’s Esspresso Bar.
There is also the fruit and veg stall that provides organic veg and fresh fruit. Along with a healthy snack section and a selection of good wines.
Plus the nut stall that is filled with snacks, lots of different nuts, free range eggs and home made ginger beer.
And if you are into growing your own fresh veg or herbs try Michelle’s Garden Shed Nursery around the back of Lavender Blue. The prices are always good.

On the topic of stalls at Lavender Blue… there is this Indian Cuisine stall that makes the most delicious cheese & onion samoosas (those triangular, deep-fried treats) amongst others; like mince curry, green lentil curry and potato/coriander/tumeric. And the lamb curry is my gunstelling in the roti (savoury-type indian-style pancake)! You must check it out when you visit East London and go early because it really is a matter of you snooze, you lose, when it comes to their Lamb Curry
They start at an alarming 07h30 on Saturdays and 08h30 on Sundays
I can certainly vouch for the potato/coriander/turmeric samoosas. I find it hard to stop eating them there and then whenever I buy them.
I must vouch for the cheese and onion samoosas, creamy cheddar with the tang of the onion and the crunch of the wrap. I was highly depressed the last time we visited, a couple of weeks ago. I walked towards Michelle’s Garden Shed and saw them, planning on returning and buying my lunch. But they were gone in the 30 minutes I was away. I wish they’d make more. Seems like they’re a big seller.
So yes, do hit them early or you’ll miss some terribly divine flavors.
